Method Description:
Boundary information plays a significant role in
3D point cloud modeling, while usually being
ignored in 3D point cloud object detection where
ambiguous features might be generated in feature
extraction,leading to misclassifification in the
transition area between two objects.We observe
that the prevailing set abstraction design for
downsampling points may maintain too much
unimportant background information that can affect
feature learning for detecting objects.To tackle
this issue,we propose a novel set abstraction
method named Boundary-Aware Set Abstraction
(BASA).

Object detection and orientation estimation results. Results for object detection are given in terms of average precision (AP) and results for joint object detection and orientation estimation are provided in terms of average orientation similarity (AOS).
